What is cut and stack imposition?

Cut and stack imposition arranges multiple copies of a job on a press sheet so that after one guillotine cut, each resulting pile is already in sequential order. Instead of collating sheets, the printer cuts the whole stack once and the piles read 1 through N without further sorting.

How is cut and stack different from standard N-up imposition?

Standard collated N-up repeats the same page in every position on every sheet, so you cut and then collate by hand or with a bindery machine. Cut and stack instead assigns a different sequential block of pages to each position, so cutting alone produces ordered stacks with no collating step.

When should I use cut and stack instead of collated printing?

Use cut and stack for jobs that need to end up in numeric or sequential order after cutting: raffle tickets, event tickets, numbered invoices, coupons, and flashcards. Use collated N-up for multi-page sets that must stay together, like folded booklets or multi-page forms.

Does cut and stack work with any page count?

Yes. If the total page count does not divide evenly by the number of positions per sheet, the last stack simply runs short by a few pages. The calculator on this page flags the remainder so you can plan blank fill pages or a shorter final pile.

Can I add sequential numbering with cut and stack?
